Reverse A
Refrigerator Door |
New refrigerators can be ordered with
either a right or left opening door. However, if you change
your kitchen or move to a new location, you may have to
reverse the direction of the door yourself. This is fairly
easy to do, but you will need two people because the door is
heavy.
Tools: Socket driver and screwdriver.
1. Unplug the refrigerator and remove all food items from
the refrigerator door. Remove the grille at the base of the
refrigerator. Start at the top of the refrigerator and
remove the upper door’s protective cap followed by the top
hinges with a socket driver. Remove the door by opening it
slightly while lifting up and out. Don’t loosen any of the
washers or shims.
2. The lower door can be removed by lifting the handle while
loosening the middle hinge pin. This will be easier if you
have someone to help support the door while you are
loosening the pin.
3. Remove the handle from the door and the hinges from the
refrigerator base and install them on the opposite side. You
will have to remove caps to install them. Save the caps and
place them in the holes left on the other side.
4. Reinstall the doors. When you feel the hinges are on
snugly, align the doors and tighten the top hinge screws
again.
5. Your grille may have a plastic filler that will need to
be moved to the other side before you can install it.
6. Plug the appliance back into the outlet.
